Alex Barry is an architect and artist living in Bristol.

The essence of architecture is the creation of space through the relationship of solid and void in the presence of light.  When starting the process of any building, ideas are portrayed at a simple conceptual level as a means of communication which involves diagrams and sketches.  I have always been interested in these beginnings as images in themselves, as abstract compositions of simple objects in relation to each other.  I have played with these in my own compositions.  In reaching towards balance, repetition, simplicity, this is ultimately driven by a pursuit of calmness, in art as relaxation, in a reaching towards the beauty inherent in simple things.
