I produce a range of ceramics including both functional and sculptural forms. I use a combination of techniques in my work including throwing, coiling, hand building and slip casting. I also make a large selection of porcelain earrings.
I completed my degree in ceramics in 1980 at Loughborough University during which I produced a range of Raku pieces before developing a new process, combining Raku Glazes, Mother of Pearl Lustre and Smoke Firings. Following the sale of much of my degree show pieces to Liberty’s of London’s ‘one off’ department, I continued to produce sculptural thrown forms for a couple of years. before entering secondary teaching in Art, Ceramics and Photography which I did for 35 years. I returned to producing my own work again 7 years ago and combined this with an Artist in Residence role at Oasis Academy Brislington.
I have recently set up a new studio in Bristol and am now entering an exciting new phase of production, alongside which I intend to offer workshops and classes to small groups. I also have a small studio in the barns of our farmhouse in the French Pyrenees where I hope to offer residential experiences in ceramics in the future.
