Granny Janny. I have been making dolls and puppets for many years as part of my role as an early years teacher. I love supporting children develop their imaginative, creative and social skills through play. I use natural materials, wool, silk and cotton. Increasingly I use recycled fabric as well. The dolls are about 12″ high, very soft and cuddly and come in a variety of skin, eye and hair colours. They are ideal for children from 1 year to around 5 years of age. There are also small baby dolls made from soft lambswool fabric which are about 5″ high. I also make dolls clothes as many children already have a favourite doll in need of a new outfit.
My mini standing or finger puppets are made from wool with faces, hair and clothes embroidered on. I create a variety of characters so the child can make up their own little puppet plays. I am starting to make little sets of puppets with particular traditional folk tales in mind.
I am mindful of the ecological sustainability of my toys, they do not contain any plastic or anything which would harm the environment. They support open ended play and I have received many positive comments from parents about their value.
